Army soldier kills motorcyclist while drunk and fleeing another crash in Campo Grande

A 22‑year‑old soldier of the Brazilian Army was arrested in Campo Grande after his Chevrolet S‑10 struck and killed 44‑year‑old motorcyclist Miriam in the city centre on Saturday morning. The vehicle was travelling at very high speed and the driver fled the scene, later crashing into a tree and a clinic fence. Police found an almost‑empty whisky bottle and beer cans in the vehicle, and the driver and a passenger showed signs of alcohol consumption. Although a breath‑test was not performed, investigators will record an infraction of intoxication based on the evidence. The incident is being treated as intentional homicide (doloso) and also as reckless driving under the influence and fleeing the accident scene. The Military Command of the West has expressed deep regret and said it does not condone conduct that violates military ethics, legal norms and public safety. The case is under investigation by the Civil Police, which will also examine whether the soldier was attempting to evade responsibility for another collision he caused earlier while intoxicated.
