Violent Clash at BEM SI Kerakyatan National Meeting in Jambi

On 29 July 2026, the Musyawarah Nasional (Munas) of the BEM SI Kerakyatan student union in Jambi was disrupted by an alleged physical assault. Around 14:30 WIB the forum, attended by representatives from eight universities, proceeded calmly until two individuals identified as Fadly and Raul entered the room, provoking a heated exchange. After they briefly left, one returned and questioned participants named Carlo, Adjie, and others, leading to their departure from the venue. By 16:30 WIB, roughly ten people gathered outside the meeting room, including Ikram, the central coordinator of BEM SI Kerakyatan. A confrontation ensued between this group and Carlo, which reportedly escalated into a beating.

The incident raised concerns about the erosion of democratic norms and the safety of discussions within student movements, prompting calls for stricter adherence to non‑violent discourse.
