Violent crimes in Gaziantep lead to murder, stabbing and prison sentences

In Gaziantep, Turkey, a 36‑year‑old street vendor, Mustafa Kayhan, and his wife were selling handkerchiefs when a dispute with two motorcyclists escalated into a fight. Kayhan was stabbed in the leg and later died despite medical treatment.

Separately, a shoot‑out between two groups on Gaziantep's Şahinbey district left Selçuk Dayan dead after a bullet struck his carotid artery. In a subsequent trial, the primary suspect Mehmet T. received a 20‑year prison term for intentional homicide, with additional sentences for related offenses. Other participants were sentenced to shorter terms or acquitted.
