Violent crimes lead to arrests in Chile and Venezuela

In Iquique, Chile, a Venezuelan national has been placed in preventive detention following a violent robbery in the city center. The suspect allegedly assaulted a 24-year-old man and stole his mobile phone near the intersection of Serrano and Ramírez streets. The incident was captured by municipal surveillance cameras, which allowed Carabineros to apprehend two suspects and recover the stolen device within 30 minutes.

Prosecutor Kelly Pérez noted that the formalised suspect has a criminal record involving robbery, possession of a sharp weapon, and irregular entry into the country. A 60-day investigation period has been established. A second suspect remains under investigation pending identification.

In La Guaira, Venezuela, a 16-year-old male was arrested for allegedly stabbing a neighbor in the head. The victim, 23-year-old Fidel Ernesto Ávila, was struck in the temple during a dispute reportedly motivated by an economic debt. The victim was transferred to the Dr. Miguel Pérez Carreño General Hospital in Caracas due to the severity of the wound and is currently recovering. The teenager has been placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry.
