Violent incidents reported in Paraná and Montevideo
In Paraná, Argentina, a scheduled eviction in the Macarone neighborhood resulted in violent clashes. On Tuesday afternoon, a group of individuals attacked police and municipal workers with stones and bricks while they were removing a precarious structure near the La Santiagueña stream. The structure was deemed a collapse risk due to terrain instability and potential flooding. Although the occupant of the dwelling did not participate, the confrontation required infantry intervention. Two people, a man and a woman, were detained following the incident, though no injuries or material damages were reported.
In Montevideo, Uruguay, a shooting near a suspected drug den in the Reducto neighborhood triggered a massive police operation. Gunfire struck the facades of at least three nearby businesses, leaving between 14 and 15 bullet impacts. The incident led to a high-speed pursuit involving 13 police vehicles that extended into the Maroñas area. Local residents and business owners expressed frustration over the recurring violence and the perceived inability to permanently close the drug distribution point.
