Italy reports series of violent robberies and assaults
Several violent incidents have been reported across Italy, highlighting concerns regarding public safety and worker vulnerability.
In Rome, a 36-year-old Pakistani delivery rider was ambushed by two masked men wielding sticks in the Casilino district. The victim was beaten, left bleeding, and robbed of his bicycle, cash, and mobile phone. The Ugl union noted that such attacks on riders are frequent, estimating approximately one hundred incidents occur every three days, though many go unreported due to the precarious legal status of some workers.
In Treviso, an assault on a MOM bus driver led to the arrest of an 18-year-old for resisting public officials during the investigation. While the driver sustained injuries, police clarified that the current arrest pertains to the individual's hostile behavior toward officers rather than the direct assault on the driver.
Additionally, a violent robbery occurred in Busto Arsizio, where a cyclist was attacked by a group of five or six people. The victim suffered a head injury and was hospitalized. One suspect was later apprehended after a confrontation involving a knife, resulting in charges of aggravated robbery and injury.
