Violent sexual assaults and murders reported in Bangladesh and India

Two separate incidents of sexual violence and murder have been reported in South Asia.

In Sreepur, Bangladesh, a 27-year-old woman was allegedly raped in front of her two children near a betel leaf warehouse. Following the assault, the victim attempted suicide on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway, an act that resulted in her elder child being critically injured after falling under a moving vehicle. The suspect, identified as 35-year-old betel leaf trader Sohrab Hossain, fled the area after the incident.

In Lucknow, India, police arrested two men, Rajesh and Hariram Rawat, for the gang-rape and murder of a 70-year-old woman. The incident occurred in the Mohanlalganj area after the woman confronted the men for consuming alcohol near her residence. Investigators used CCTV footage and technical evidence to trace the suspects following a complaint from the victim’s family.
