Violent Soho receives first platinum album certification for ‘Hungry Ghost’

The Australian alternative rock band Violent Soho has received its first-ever platinum album certification from the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) for the album ‘Hungry Ghost’. Released in 2013, the record achieved this milestone more than a decade after its initial debut.

The band was presented with commemorative plaques during a sold-out warm-up show at the Mansfield Tavern in Brisbane. This certification marks the band’s fourth platinum record overall, following their singles ‘Covered in Chrome’, ‘Like Soda’, and ‘Viceroy’.

In a statement, the band expressed gratitude for the enduring connection with their audience, noting that they recorded the album in a Brisbane shed with no initial expectations. ‘To see the love it’s received over the last 13 years has been very humbling,’ the group shared. The achievement comes as the band prepares for a sold-out Australian headline tour with dates in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.
