Violetta Villas: New biopic explores the life of the Polish singer

The life and legacy of the legendary Polish singer Violetta Villas, born Czesława Maria Gospodarek, are being explored through new cinematic and personal lenses. Villas, known for her international career and distinctive stage persona, passed away in 2011 in Lewin Kłodzki, a location that remains a site of pilgrimage for her fans.

A new biographical film directed by Karolina Bielawska, screened at the 51st Gdynia Polish Film Festival, attempts to deconstruct the diva's persona. Rather than a traditional celebratory biopic, the film focuses on the human element, examining the complex relationship between the performer and her son, and the tension between her private identity as Czesława Gospodarek and her public image as a global star.
