Viorel Oarză found shot in the head in Iași forest

Viorel Oarză, a former professional boxer and figure associated with organized crime, was found with a gunshot wound to the head in a forest in the Holboca commune of Iași County on Tuesday, September 15.

Medical teams and police responded to the Cananău forest where the incident occurred. Dr. Diana Cimpoeșu, coordinator for UPU-SMURD Iași, confirmed the patient is approximately 50 years old and sustained a cranio-cerebral gunshot wound. Authorities have not yet determined the victim's condition or the exact circumstances of the shooting, including whether it was an assault, an accident, or a self-inflicted injury.

Oarză is reportedly linked to the ‘Brigada’ group, which Italian authorities identified as the first Romanian-only mafia clan operating in Italy, specifically in the Turin area. The group has been involved in human trafficking, drug offenses, extortion, and smuggling. Oarză previously served a prison sentence in Italy for attempted murder.
