Viorel Pașca trial drives Romanian lawyers to volunteer for pro bono defense

Lawyer Răzvan Doseanu, representing the family of Viorel Pașca – the former head of the charitable association “Dumnezeu Poartă de Grijă” – has appealed to fellow attorneys across Romania to join a pro bono defence team. The appeal cites the need for volunteers to attend the hundreds of witness and victim hearings planned in numerous counties, arguing that the prosecution’s resources far exceed those of the defence and that equal‑arms guarantees must be upheld.

The hearings are scheduled for late July in Vrancea (July 27‑28), Neamț (July 29‑31) and other locations, including Bihor, where the case is dubbed the “asylum of horrors”. Pașca, once known as a “good Samaritan” for sheltering homeless and mentally ill individuals, now faces serious criminal accusations, prompting the defence to request urgent assistance from attorneys nationwide.
