Viorel Sibiceanu, founder of Dedulești roadside restaurant chain, dies at 70

Romanian entrepreneur Viorel Sibiceanu, aged 70, passed away on 5 August. He founded the popular Dedulești roadside restaurant in Argeș County in 1994, turning a small terrace on DN7 into a nationally recognised stop famous for its grilled mici. The venue, situated between Pitești and Râmnicu Vâlcea, became a landmark for travelers across Romania.

His death has been mourned by the local community and by FC Argeș, which posted condolences on social media. A funeral service was held on 6 August at the Sibiceanu family home in Săpunari, Morărești, with burial on 8 August.

Sibiceanu’s legacy includes the growth of the Sibiceanu restaurant brand and its status as a cultural touch‑stone for Romanian road‑trip cuisine.
