Virac barangays receive disaster resilience kits via Project REACHED

PLDT, Smart, and the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) have distributed emergency communication and power packages, known as Ligtas Kits, to three vulnerable barangays in Virac, Catanduanes.

These kits were provided to Barangays Balite, Simamla, and Talisoy through Project REACHED (Resilient Emergency Communications for Enhanced Disaster Response), an initiative funded by Australian Aid. The project aims to strengthen disaster preparedness in the Bicol Region, an area frequently impacted by typhoons and storm surges.

The Ligtas Kit includes a power station, solar panel, smartphone, crank radio, pocket WiFi, emergency lights, FM radio, and charging accessories. Local officials noted that the kits address critical gaps in mobile coverage and power availability, allowing for better resident monitoring and coordination during coastal evacuations.
