Viracopos Airport concession renegotiation targets R$ 1.5 billion investment
The Brazilian government is planning to renegotiate the concession contract for Viracopos International Airport in Campinas, aiming for an investment package of approximately R$ 1.5 billion between 2027 and 2030. The proposed plan includes the construction of a new runway and terminal expansions.
Minister of Ports and Airports Tomé Franca stated that the government is seeking a consensual solution involving the Attorney General's Office (AGU) to resolve outstanding liabilities. While the goal is to maintain the current Special Purpose Entity (SPE) responsible for the airport, the renegotiation could allow for a change in investors, similar to the transition seen at Galeão Airport in Rio de Janeiro.
The impasse with the current concessionaire, Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos (managed by Triunfo), stems from disputes over funds related to cargo handling fees and unpaid concession fees. The government aims to reach a resolution as early as 2026, provided there is mutual agreement between the parties to settle the legal and financial disagreements.
