Campo Grande’s LGBT Pride Parade Attracts Around 20,000 Attendees
Several large‑scale cultural events took place across Brazil over the weekend of 24‑26 July. In Campo Grande, the XXIII Parada da Cidadania LGBT+ was held in Praça do Rádio Clube on 25 July, organized by the Association of Transvestites and Transsexuals of Mato Grosso do Sul and supported by municipal social‑assistance agencies. Organizers expected about 20 000 participants and the program also included a free urban‑art exhibition, a traditional feira with an arraiá atmosphere, a religious carriage honoring São Cristóvão and a youth‑meeting of the World Youth Day.
In Rio de Janeiro, the Viradão Gospel returned for a 24‑hour free program from the night of 31 July to 1 August, featuring more than 100 000 visitors, eleven stages, and performances by major gospel artists such as Thalles Roberto and Samuel Messias. The event was backed by the city hall and the Institute Grupo Unido por um Mundo Melhor.
The Pernambuco state government continued its cultural‑decentralisation policy with the Festival Pernambuco Meu País, staging free concerts in Triunfo and Salgueiro between 22 and 26 July. Governor Raquel Lyra attended; security was reinforced with over 200 police officers.
Other weekend programmes included a free pet‑focused festival at Ibirapuera Park in São Paulo, a winter festival in Paranapiacaba with more than 80 cultural attractions, and numerous family‑oriented activities at museums, parks and shopping centres in Rio, Guarulhos, Itabirito and other cities.
