Virat Kohli denies ₹5 crore payment claim for ashram visit
Spokespersons for former Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli have issued an official statement rejecting allegations that he was paid ₹5 crore to visit the ashram of spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj in Vrindavan.
The claims were made by Dinesh Sharma, also known as ‘Falahari Maharaj’ and president of the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Sangharsh Nyas. Sharma reportedly alleged in a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that a Rajasthan-based private company and a property lobby spent the funds to facilitate the visit to increase the spiritual leader's visibility.
Kohli’s team described the allegations as “completely false, baseless and factually incorrect,” asserting that his visits to the ashram, often accompanied by his wife Anushka Sharma, are motivated purely by “deep faith and reverence.” No documentary evidence, such as bank records or contracts, has been produced to substantiate the claims of payment.
