Virat Kohli reaches 15,000 ODI runs and climbs to second in ICC rankings
Virat Kohli has reached several major milestones during India’s ODI series against the West Indies. Following an unbeaten 139 off 88 balls in the first ODI at Thiruvananthapuram, Kohli became the fastest player to reach 15,000 runs in men’s ODI cricket, achieving the feat in 303 innings compared to Sachin Tendulkar’s 377.
His performance also propelled him to second place in the ICC Men’s ODI batting rankings with 796 points, trailing teammate Shubman Gill, who remains at the top. The century was Kohli’s 55th in ODIs and his 86th international hundred, leaving him 14 centuries away from equaling Tendulkar’s record of 100 international hundreds.
In the same match, Shubman Gill scored 101 to help India secure an eight-wicket victory. The series continues with upcoming matches in Guwahati, a venue where Kohli maintains a perfect record of scoring centuries in every ODI appearance.
