Virat Kohli reaches 15,000 ODI runs in record-breaking win
Virat Kohli achieved several major milestones during India’s eight-wicket victory over the West Indies in the first ODI at Thiruvananthapuram. Kohli scored an unbeaten 139 runs off 88 balls, including 10 fours and nine sixes, marking his 55th ODI century and 86th international century.
With this performance, Kohli became only the second player in ODI history to surpass 15,000 runs, joining Sachin Tendulkar. Notably, Kohli reached this milestone in just 303 innings, 74 innings faster than Tendulkar, who required 377 innings. He also became the first player to score over 7,000 ODI runs on Indian soil.
Captain Shubman Gill contributed a century of his own, scoring 110 runs, to help India chase down the West Indies' target of 296. Despite a century from West Indies' Justin Greaves, India secured a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Kuldeep Yadav was named Player of the Match for his bowling performance, taking four wickets for 40 runs.
