Virat Kohli marks 18 years since international cricket debut
August 18 marks the 18th anniversary of Virat Kohli’s international cricket debut. The Indian batting icon first played for his country in an ODI against Sri Lanka in Dambulla in 2008, scoring 12 runs.
Since that debut, Kohli has amassed over 28,000 international runs and 85 centuries. He holds several notable records, including the most 150-plus scores by a non-opener in ODI cricket. His jersey number, 18, carries personal significance, linked to the date of his father’s passing in 2006 and the date of his international debut.
During the ongoing Test series between India and Sri Lanka, fans celebrated the milestone, with supporters wearing his iconic number 18 jersey in the stands at Galle International Stadium.
