Virender Basoya remanded to NCB custody after UAE extradition
Virender Singh Basoya, an alleged mastermind of an international drug trafficking syndicate, has been remanded to the custody of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) until August 21. Basoya was extradited from the United Arab Emirates and arrested at Delhi airport following a transit remand granted by a Delhi court.
Investigators allege that Basoya coordinated large-scale drug operations from abroad, specifically facilitating the movement of narcotics from India to other countries. The investigation follows significant seizures of mephedrone, including approximately 867 kg in Pune and 970 kg in Delhi, totaling roughly 1,837 kg.
Basoya’s name first surfaced in 2024 following a 500-gram mephedrone seizure in Pune. The subsequent investigation by the NCB’s Mumbai unit identified him as a central figure in the network. Authorities are currently interrogating Basoya to uncover details regarding the syndicate’s financial transactions, international contacts, and the involvement of other fugitives.
