Virgen de Zapopan returns to Basilica after 292nd Romería

The 292nd edition of the Romería de Zapopan concluded with the image of the Virgin of Zapopan returning to her Basilica after a 9.2-kilometer procession from the Guadalajara Metropolitan Cathedral. Approximately one million faithful participated in the event.

While the attendance was lower than the three million reported in 2025, officials attributed the decrease to the event falling on a Monday and the potential impact of Hurricane Simon, despite the weather remaining clear during the pilgrimage.

Security and civil protection operations involved thousands of personnel across multiple levels of government. Authorities reported a generally safe event, though minor incidents occurred, including medical attention for fatigue and falls, and one individual injured by a falling tree branch. Minor fires caused by short circuits and several cases of lost children were also managed by emergency services.
