Virgen del Carmen festivals kick off across Spain and Latin America

Communities in Spain and Latin America are celebrating the July feast of the Virgen del Carmen, the patron saint of sailors. In Andalusia, Roquetas de Mar (Aguadulce) will host a marathon, religious processions and beach sports from July 14‑16, while nearby towns such as Cangas del Narcea, El Varadero, Santurtzi, Sevilla and Cádiz stage novenas, fireworks, parades and security operations. Molina de Aragón highlights a historic military‑styled brotherhood and aims for national tourist‑interest status. In Panama, Taboga island, the town of Pocrí (Aguadulce) and Panama City hold nautical processions, masses and popular festivities that draw thousands. Lima’s Virgen del Carmen will make a pilgrimage to the Las Nazarenas church after 26 years, accompanied by traditional verbenas. Across all locations, the celebrations combine religious rites, cultural performances and municipal coordination to honor the Virgin and attract visitors.
