Virgen del Cisne festivities set for September 2026

The traditional Noches del Peregrino will take place from September 1 to 8, 2026, in honor of the Virgen del Cisne. The festivities will be held outside the Cathedral church and will feature religious and cultural activities including dances, music, parades, and the burning of fireworks displays known as 'castillos'.

Participants and pilgrims from Azuay and various other provinces are expected to attend. The program includes novenas, vespers, and various masses. To accommodate visitors, the 18 de Noviembre and IV Centenario educational units will serve as shelters during the event.

The central celebration will occur on September 8, marking the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. This day will include traditional morning songs, a mass, and a procession through the city's central streets, with plans to burn at least 11 fireworks displays.
