Virgil van Dijk discusses Liverpool transition following Monaco defeat

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has returned to action following a pre-season period of training at the AXA Training Centre, having opted to skip the club's tour of the United States to maintain fitness.

In a recent pre-season friendly at Anfield, Liverpool suffered a 3-2 defeat to AS Monaco. Despite early goals from Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, Monaco staged a comeback with goals from Aleksandr Golovin and Mika Biereth, followed by an 88th-minute header from Paris Brunner.

Van Dijk noted that the club is currently in a period of transition. He expressed support for new manager Andoni Iraola, stating that he has already held productive discussions with the coach regarding his role and the team's needs. While reflecting on the previous season under Arne Slot, Van Dijk described the tenure as a positive experience despite a disappointing fifth-place finish in the Premier League, noting that the squad must now adapt to new training methods and preparation styles under the new leadership.
