Virgil van Dijk to decide national team future after meeting with Xavi

Liverpool and Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk has stated that his decision regarding his future with the national team depends on an upcoming meeting with the new head coach, Xavi Hernández.

Following the Netherlands' exit from the World Cup Round of 32 against Morocco and the departure of Ronald Koeman, Xavi Hernández has taken over the managerial role. The 35-year-old defender indicated that while he still feels like a valued member of the squad, he needs to ensure the new leadership views his contributions with the same respect.

Van Dijk clarified that he is not considering retiring from international football solely to focus on his club career, noting that he wants to feel appreciated for the quality he brings to the team. He suggested that if Xavi shares his vision, there could be another two years of international play ahead.
