PVEM faces internal split in Colima amid 2027 election alliances
Political alliances for the 2027 elections in Mexico are seeing both consolidation and fragmentation. In Querétaro, Morena, the Labor Party (PT), and the Green Party (PVEM) have confirmed a coalition to support the ‘Fourth Transformation’ project.
Conversely, the PVEM faces internal division in Colima. Senator Virgilio Mendoza Amezcua has resigned from his position as the state leader of the Green Party to protest the party's decision to form an alliance with Morena in the region. Mendoza expressed disagreement with the designation of Rosa María Bayardo Cabrera as the coordinator for the defense of the ‘Fourth Transformation,’ citing dissatisfaction with her previous performance as mayor of Manzanillo.
Mendoza intends to build a new political front involving social leaders and citizens to compete against Morena in 2027. He indicated that approximately 40 local Green Party leaders may also resign to support this new movement.
