Virgin Active survey finds Thai fitness enthusiasts lack adequate recovery
A national survey by Virgin Active Thailand reveals a growing trend of intense physical training among residents, contrasted by insufficient recovery and rest. While 87% of 1,000 surveyed individuals recognize the importance of recovery for overall well-being, 53% report that they do not get enough rest or recovery to meet their needs.
Data from Garmin Connect shows that strength training among Thai users grew by 30% in 2025, surpassing cycling to become the third most popular activity on the platform. This shift toward high-performance training was further highlighted by the HYROX Bangkok event in August 2026, which hosted over 20,000 athletes from 60 countries.
The lack of adequate recovery has led to significant health concerns. Over the past six months, 66% of respondents reported fatigue, 57% experienced stress, 53% faced poor sleep quality, 41% suffered from chronic muscle tension, and 39% dealt with burnout due to work, training, or lifestyle pressures.
