Virgin Atlantic pilot arrested in Seoul after assaulting police while intoxicated

A senior Virgin Atlantic pilot was arrested in Seoul, South Korea, after an incident in which he allegedly punched a police officer while heavily intoxicated. The pilot had just completed a long‑haul flight from London Heathrow to Incheon aboard a Boeing 787‑9 Dreamliner carrying roughly 300 passengers and crew.

Off‑duty, the pilot was found stumbling in a public area and, when approached by officers, struck one officer in the face. South Korean authorities detained him, and Virgin Atlantic immediately suspended the pilot, cancelling several flights. The airline announced an internal investigation and expressed anger over the breach of conduct. The case highlights regulatory challenges in monitoring crew behavior during international layovers and has prompted discussion about aviation safety policies.
