Virgin of Carmen festivals attract crowds in Chile's Pelarco and Spain's Cala Figuera
The town of Pelarco in Chile's Maule region is preparing for its 14th national Fiesta de la Virgen del Carmen, scheduled for July 16‑18. The celebration will feature a large morning procession, a solemn mass presided over by Bishop Galo Fernández Villaseca, folk dances, concerts, artisan markets and other cultural activities, with organizers expecting more than 40,000 visitors.
On Spain's island of Mallorca, the coastal village of Cala Figuera will hold its annual Mare de Déu del Carme festivities from July 4‑16. Highlights include a traditional maritime procession of decorated boats on July 16, concerts by local and regional musicians, a beach clean‑up event, and a series of cultural and gastronomic programs aimed at residents and tourists alike.
