Virgine Viard reflects on her departure from Chanel

Former Chanel creative director Virgine Viard has addressed her departure from the fashion house in her new book, ‘Un regard. Une vie chez Chanel’. Viard, who spent thirty years at the company, described the brand as the ‘backbone’ and ‘structure’ of her existence.

Having joined Chanel in the late 1980s, Viard served as a vital creative partner to Karl Lagerfeld, often described by him as his ‘right and left arm’. While Lagerfeld held the public spotlight, Viard was instrumental in translating his ideas into reality. Her departure follows a period of transition for the maison after Lagerfeld's death.
