Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones launches Regulated Products Enforcement Unit for vaping and intoxicants
Attorney General Jay Jones announced the creation of a Regulated Products Enforcement Unit within the Virginia attorney general’s office. The unit will centralize civil enforcement, retail compliance checks, product directory administration and public education for liquid‑nicotine vaping products, THC, hemp‑derived intoxicants and kratom.
Inspectors assigned to the unit will monitor retailers, conduct compliance inspections and coordinate enforcement actions with the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority and other state agencies. The office is authorized to pursue civil penalties against manufacturers, distributors or retailers that violate state law. The move follows years of legislative effort, including the Vape Enforcement Act sponsored by Delegate Patrick Hope and Senators Adam Ebbin and Schuyler VanValkenburg, which expanded the state’s authority to regulate emerging intoxicants that often target children.
