Virginia woman charged in fatal shooting during firearm foreplay

Ember McSpadden, a 19-year-old woman, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter following a fatal shooting in Virginia Beach. The incident occurred in the early morning hours of March 5 in the 2600 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard.

Investigators describe the event as a game of ‘Russian roulette’ occurring during consensual foreplay involving firearms and knives. According to court testimony, 26-year-old Shane Brooks allegedly handed McSpadden a handgun containing one live round. McSpadden reportedly pulled the trigger three times while counting the clicks before the weapon discharged, striking Brooks in the neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

While a lead detective characterized the relationship between McSpadden and Brooks as a ‘friends with benefits’ arrangement, Brooks’ family has disputed this, stating they did not know McSpadden and were not dating. Police reported finding seven guns in the room where the shooting took place, including two revolvers on the bed.
