Virginia Bell delays anti-Semitism royal commission report

Commissioner Virginia Bell has requested a four-day extension for the final report of the Royal Commission into anti-Semitism and Social Cohesion. The report, originally due on December 14, is now expected to be delivered on Friday, December 18.

Bell stated the delay is intended to avoid distracting from the solemn one-year anniversary of the Bondi Beach massacre, which occurred on December 14. The decision follows concerns raised by members of the Jewish community regarding the timing of the findings.

The commission has processed over 20,000 written submissions and heard testimony from 346 witnesses. Bell noted that while some aspects of the investigation into the circumstances leading to the Bondi attack were held in closed hearings to avoid prejudicing ongoing criminal proceedings, the findings will be included in a confidential volume of the final report.
