Virginia celebrates 38th annual Wine Month during harvest

October marks the 38th annual Virginia Wine Month, a month-long celebration of the state's wine industry. As the harvest is currently underway for the 2026 vintage, the event aims to highlight local producers and winemakers.

This year's celebration carries particular significance as the industry recovers from severe frost and freeze events that occurred in March and April. These weather events caused widespread damage and crop losses across the Commonwealth. Consequently, the USDA has designated more than 100 cities and counties as disaster areas, qualifying them for recovery assistance.

Governor Abigail Spanberger has proclaimed the month to encourage public support for the industry. Throughout October, the state will host various festivals, special dinners, and exclusive experiences to promote Virginia's red, white, and sparkling wines.
