Virginia Department of Transportation lifts lane closures for Labor Day
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is suspending many highway work zones and lifting most lane closures on interstates and major roads to facilitate travel during the Labor Day holiday weekend. The suspension is scheduled to run from noon on Friday, Sept. 4, until noon on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
While most closures will be lifted, motorists may still encounter semi-permanent work zones. VDOT advises travelers to use the 511 Virginia mobile app or website to monitor traffic, incidents, and congestion. The agency also provides a travel trends map to help drivers avoid peak congestion periods based on historical data.
