Virginia athletics secures football win over Syracuse and basketball victory against Richmond

The University of Virginia secured notable victories in both football and men’s basketball exhibition and regular-season play.

In football, Virginia overcame a 10-point deficit to defeat Syracuse 28-25. Jekail Middlebrook led the comeback with two fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns, finishing with 95 yards. Despite Syracuse quarterback Malachi Nelson throwing for 217 yards in his first start, the Cavaliers' defense and special teams helped secure the win.

In men’s basketball, the Virginia Cavaliers dominated the Richmond Spiders in a preseason exhibition game, winning 96-53. After a slow start, Virginia went on a 26-0 run to take control. Chance Mallory, Thijs De Ridder, and Martin Carrere each scored 12 points, while the team shot 50% from the field and 50% from three-point range.
