Virginia launches major traffic safety and anti-impaired driving campaigns
Virginia law enforcement agencies are launching major traffic safety and anti-impaired driving initiatives across the Commonwealth.
As part of the 25th anniversary of the ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign, 111 agencies will conduct 665 saturation patrols and 58 sobriety checkpoints from August 19 through September 7, 2026. This effort includes a new public awareness program titled ‘What’s the Damage?’, which aims to highlight the social and personal consequences of DUI offenses beyond financial costs.
Additionally, the Virginia State Police will execute ‘Operation DISS-RUPT’ on August 20–21, 2026. This 48-hour enforcement detail will span 299 miles of Interstate 64, targeting distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding, and seat belt safety. The operation aims to achieve zero fatal crashes during the enforcement period.
