Virginia State University shooting leaves five wounded; suspect arrested
Authorities have arrested 19-year-old Cameron Harris following a shooting at Virginia State University in Ettrick, Virginia. The incident, which occurred around 1:30 a.m. on a Saturday, left five people wounded, including one individual in critical condition. Harris was discovered hiding in a dormitory closet approximately 14 hours after the gunfire.
Investigators from the Chesterfield County Police Department are currently working to determine if other individuals involved in the gunfire were acting in self-defense or as aggressors. While Harris faces multiple felony warrants, including malicious wounding and firearm usage, police are still seeking to identify other potential shooters.
Virginia State University, a historically Black university (HBCU), has maintained that classes will proceed as scheduled despite the incident. University President Makola Abdullah stated that the institution is cooperating with local, state, and federal law enforcement, and an increased police presence will remain on campus during the ongoing investigation.
