Virginia State University shooting suspect arrested

A 19-year-old man, Camron Harris of Henrico, Virginia, was arrested after being found hiding in a dormitory closet at Virginia State University following a shooting that wounded five people.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Saturday near the university’s residence halls. Among the victims, a 21-year-old man remains in critical condition, while four others, aged 17 to 23, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Only one victim is a student at the university.

Harris faces eight felony warrants, including four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently being held without bond at the Chesterfield County Jail.

Chesterfield County Police are continuing their investigation to identify other individuals who may have fired weapons. Authorities are working to determine if those individuals acted in self-defense or were aggressors in the incident.
