Virginia Tech and West Virginia football updates during bye weeks

Virginia Tech enters its bye week following a significant victory over Clemson. Head coach James Franklin noted the positive momentum within the team, contrasting it with previous seasons where bye weeks followed losses. During practice, the coaching staff has focused on managing the workload of quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer, who has faced significant pressure and 11 sacks over the last two games.

Meanwhile, West Virginia University is also at a bye week after eight games of the 2026 season. Offensive analysis shows quarterback Mike Hawkins Jr. performing at an elite level, ranking among the top starting quarterbacks in college football. Running back Cam Cook has also maintained solid production, ranking third nationally in rushing with 923 yards.

Additionally, evaluations of former West Virginia players in the transfer portal show varying levels of success at other FBS schools. Notable performers include running back Jahiem White at North Texas and wide receiver Oran Singleton Jr. at Tulsa.
