Virginia Tech opened the scoring in the 12th minute when defender Noe Uwimana scored following an assist from Amir Ariely. After a scoreless first half, Parker Polk extended the Hokies' lead to 2-0 in the 74th minute. Yanis Belatrache secured the final goal with a penalty kick in the closing moments of the match.
Kentucky goalkeeper Gilles Monti, making his first career start, recorded two saves during the contest. The Wildcats will have a week of rest before their next match against Evansville on September 4.
