Virginie Laffon presents photography exhibition in Moura
French anthropologist and photographer Virginie Laffon is presenting a photography exhibition titled ‘Diário de uma estrangeira numa terra que também foi sua’ (Diary of a foreigner in a land that was also hers) at the Galeria do Espírito Santo in Moura. Running from September 5 to September 30, the exhibition features approximately 60 photographs documenting five decades of memories and relationships in the village of Amareleja.
Laffon’s connection to Portugal began in the early 1970s, and her academic work in anthropology led her to study the rural lifestyles, community practices, and cultural identity of the Alentejo region. The collection captures generational changes, agricultural work, local festivals, and the evolution of the village. The exhibition serves as both a scientific record and a personal tribute to the community that welcomed her over the last 50 years.
