Virtimo AG initiates BOSNET platform to fight disinformation in Germany

On 1 July 2026 the research project BOSNET began operations to help German security authorities counter digital disinformation. The consortium is led by the University of Potsdam and includes the universities of Bamberg, Tübingen and Cologne, the Technical Relief Agency (THW) and partners such as the police of Paderborn, Johanniter‑Unfall‑Hilfe and the Malteser Hilfsdienst.

Virtimo AG is responsible for the technical conception and implementation of the software demonstrator. The platform will provide AI‑driven analysis, an information‑assessment engine and a scalable knowledge base documenting disinformation cases and response strategies. Built on the Virtimo Cloud, it follows a multi‑tenant “ethics‑by‑design” architecture to meet GDPR and EU AI‑Act requirements and will be tested iteratively in the THW’s AI lab.

“BOSNET creates a technological base that enables security agencies to act more resiliently in crises,” said Virtimo project coordinator Eric Hochstrate. The effort builds on Virtimo’s earlier PREVENT project (2021‑2025) funded by the German BMBF, which delivered a cloud‑based training tool for recognizing fake‑news campaigns.
