Visa develops stablecoin platform and on-chain lending infrastructure
Visa is advancing its blockchain infrastructure through the development of the Visa Stablecoin Platform (VSP). Announced in July 2026, the platform serves as a ‘wallet-as-a-service’ toolkit designed to help banks, fintech companies, and crypto firms manage, issue, and redeem stablecoins using Visa’s enterprise-grade security and compliance tools.
The platform is set to initially support Open USD, with plans to integrate USDC in the future. By providing a unified environment for token lifecycle management, VSP aims to reduce the technical complexity and operational risks—such as private key management and minting logic—that have previously hindered traditional financial institutions from adopting blockchain services.
In addition to the VSP, Visa is testing an on-chain lending solution. This system connects the working capital financing of stablecoin-based card programs with VisaNet settlement data through blockchain smart contracts, effectively integrating decentralized assets into traditional financial settlement processes.
