Visa reports 30% increase in Bulgarian POS terminals

Visa reports a 30% increase in the number of POS terminals in Bulgaria between December 2022 and June 2025. This growth is driven by the ‘Bulgaria Without Borders’ initiative, which provides merchants with incentives such as transaction fees as low as 1%, free SIM cards, and a 20% discount on new POS device purchases.

Small and medium-sized enterprises are playing a significant role in this expansion. By December 2025, merchants participating in the program are expected to hold 10% of all active POS devices in the country. The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with Bulgarian banks, financial institutions, and various public and non-governmental organizations to support a more competitive and digitally connected economy.
