Visa rolls out Threat Intelligence Platform to help banks thwart cyber fraud

Visa has launched the Visa Threat Intelligence Platform (VTIP), a cybersecurity solution aimed at financial institutions worldwide. The platform uses the same threat‑detection capabilities that protect Visa’s global payment network, enabling banks and other payment service providers to spot cyber‑attack indicators, compromised credentials and brand‑misuse early and respond before incidents turn into fraud.

VTIP combines threat data from the dark web with VisaNet transaction intelligence, offering insights on malware, vulnerabilities, digital‑identity risks and stolen payment data. Visa tested the system internally, acting as its first customer, and now offers it to the broader ecosystem. The company reports blocking roughly 90 million cyber attacks and 11 million phishing messages each month across more than 200 countries. Executives such as Walter Lironi and Nikos Petrakis highlighted the platform’s role in strengthening trust in digital payments and reducing financial losses.

The solution is part of Visa’s multibillion‑dollar investment in securing digital payments and is targeted specifically at the financial sector’s risk‑management teams.
