Visabeira targets 80% control of Mozambique telecom operators TV Cabo and Televisa
Portuguese conglomerate Visabeira plans to increase its ownership in Mozambique's telecom sector from 50% to 80% in both TV Cabo Comunicações Multimédia and Televisa – Sociedade Técnica de Obras e Projetos. The group will acquire an additional 30% stake in each company from the state mobile operator Tmcel, bringing its total holding to a controlling majority.
The transactions have been notified to Mozambique's Competition Regulator (ARC), which opened a 15‑day public consultation period for comments. Approval will allow Visabeira, through its local subsidiary Visabeira Mozambique, to gain exclusive control of TV Cabo, a major provider of subscription TV, fixed‑line internet and voice services, and Televisa, which designs, builds and maintains telecom network infrastructure.
Visabeira’s expansion builds on previous 2023 purchases that raised its share to 50% in both firms and follows recent agreements with Mozambican state utilities in the energy sector. The company's vice‑president, Fernando Daniel Nunes, said the group remains “a reference within the economic landscape in Mozambique”.
