Chennai mandates waste segregation as student death reported in Visakhapatnam

In Chennai, Corporation Commissioner G. S. Sameeran has announced that starting September 1, residents and establishments must segregate waste into categories such as wet, dry, sanitary, and hazardous. Failure to comply will result in fines. This initiative follows recent efforts to manage solid waste, including large-scale landfill reclamation projects.

In Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, a six-year-old student named Pranay Tej died after an incident at Little Garden School. The boy’s father alleges that a teacher struck the child with a stick following a confrontation over an incomplete assignment. CCTV footage reportedly shows the teacher hitting the boy shortly before he collapsed. The child was rushed to King George Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the death.

In Singapore, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong delivered a National Day parade speech announcing new family support measures. These include additional childcare leave—eight days total for parents with children under 12—and reductions in childcare and infant care fees to assist working families.
