Visakhapatnam teacher arrested after six-year-old student dies

A teacher has been arrested in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, following the death of a six-year-old student at Little Garden School. The student, an Upper Kindergarten pupil, reportedly collapsed in his classroom on August 20 after being reprimanded for incomplete homework.

According to allegations from the child's family, the teacher, identified as 23-year-old Donnu Kusuma, allegedly slapped the boy and pulled him by his uniform collar. The student lost consciousness and was rushed to King George Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The family stated the child had no prior medical conditions.

Police have remanded Kusuma to 14 days of judicial custody. Charges include violations of the Juvenile Justice Act and sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). A three-member committee from the Andhra Pradesh School Education Department has been formed to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident. The school management declared a two-day holiday following the tragedy.
