Visayas and Mindanao grids face red alerts and power outages

The Visayas and Mindanao power grids in the Philippines are facing ongoing electricity supply issues, marked by new red and yellow alerts. The Visayas grid has entered its fourth consecutive day of red alert, signaling that power demand exceeds available supply and increasing the risk of rotational brownouts. This instability is attributed to outages at major coal power plants and limited electricity imports from Mindanao.

In Metro Cebu, the Visayan Electric Company (Veco) has announced rotational brownouts affecting 105 areas across Cebu City, Talisay, Mandaue, Naga, Liloan, Consolacion, and Minglanilla. These outages are scheduled to occur in various blocks throughout the day as the grid remains under critical alert status.
